Quality Assurance Technician – Production

We are recruiting on behalf of our client, for a Quality Assurance Technician, at their modern food production facility based in Northampton.

Hours of Work: Monday – Friday 05.30AM – 01.30PM & 1.30PM – 9.30PM ROTATING = 37.5Hours per week

This role is a permanent placement with our client.

Salary & Package: £9.69p/h plus £0.81p/h shift allowance for all basic hours worked. Pension 5% employee 3% employer. Holidays 28 per annum inclusive of bank holidays.

Job Purpose:
• To undertake all checks on a daily, weekly and monthly basis as defined on the QMS testing schedule in an accurate and timely manner
• To ensure that the safety of company products is implemented, monitored and maintained throughout the factory
• To effectively work and communicate with management team and production operatives to continuously improve standards
• To attend production taste panel
• To spend the 80% of the time per shift on the production areas

Duties & Responsibilities:
A list of principal tasks that the job holder will be expected to do without exception as part of their normal duties:
• Implementation of food safety standards and procedures
• Ensuring that the standards laid down in the company QMS are being adhered to
• Raising non-conformities, technical incidents and taking suitable and appropriate corrective actions
• Collecting microbiological samples, water samples, environmental swabs and hand swabs as required
• Registering samples with the requisite testing laboratory.
• Collecting samples of finished products for the shift taste panel and facilitating it
• To be enforcing the additional requirements of the products in “Intensive Care”
• Undertaking internal audits focusing on GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), Fabrication, Hygiene and Personal Hygiene, and ensuring suitable corrective actions are taken and satisfactorily closed out
• Being familiar with the Critical Control Points (CCPs) within the company and being able to train new starters against them, take appropriate corrective actions in the instance of a critical limits not being met and maintain a good communication between production and technical team
• Make identifiable contributions to both company and team objectives
• Looking for areas where the QMS systems can be improved and made more efficient
• Supervision of operatives’ behaviour to ensure GHP (Good Hygiene Practice) is being followed
• Becoming very familiar with the company QMS and cross-referencing systems and procedures while being executed and being prepared to answer any potential question from third-party / customer auditors
• Calibration checks in accordance with the testing schedule including infrared probes, penetration thermometers and weighing scales
• Able to control, validate and optimise processes in place
• Conducting pre-start checks, including hygiene conditions of the machines, titration (volume concentration) of sanitiser, temperature checks of production areas, etc.
• Cooperation with area managers to ensure non-conformities are completed within the agreed timescales
• Liaise with the other QA team members to give effective factory QA coverage and presence across the day/week
• Work within your team to assess company targets, carry out projects on behalf of Technical Department and write and present reports
• Attend and/or chair weekly meetings with the QA team and members of Technical Department to present weekly KPI in terms of: Technical Incidents, Maintenance Requests and other issues highlighted during the week
• Maintain a presence within the production function that directs communication from the process to the management team and vice versa
• To raise minor, major and critical non-conformities with the areas owners
• Maintain records and prepare reports in a timely manner (internal & external)
• Able to create and deliver training and development material to personnel across the company regarding the company QMS
• To provide assistance in the resolution of customer complaints as required
• Covering colleagues for holidays and/or busy periods

Skills, Qualifications & Experience Required:
• Minimum 2-year experience in a food manufacturing company
• Previous experience as a QA or similar role within the QA department
• Good knowledge of the ISO 22000 and/or ISO 9001
• Food Science degree or equivalent
• I-can-do attitude, enthusiastic and ability to encourage the others and work as a team player
• Be self-motivated and proactive
• Ability to take responsibilities and find appropriate solutions on food safety issues
• Ability to communicate at all levels, both written and verbal
• Knowledge of Microsoft office (Excel / Word / PowerPoint)
• Flexible and adaptable in terms of shift pattern and absence coverage
